How does the depth of the water table affect the depth of root growth in Palo Verde trees? This project is important because in Arizona and other states in the US there aquifers are being over pumped causing the water table in those areas to fall. This project explores the idea of what happens when the water table falls to a certain depth where even plants can’t survive.

1. Great job collecting weekly data for 12 weeks and presenting it with tables, graphs, and photo documentation.

The graphs and quantitative comparisons significantly strengthen the project. Also, acknowledging limitations demonstrates scientific maturity. This project shows excellent scientific thinking and environmental awareness. Good job.
The project has an outstanding application to a real Arizona problem (overpumping aquifers causing water table decline). Creative scaled model using clear pots to observe root growth.
