Making Loud Noises Quiet

My project tested the soundproof ability of different materials in order to find out what properties reduce the most sound. I chose this project after I visited a whispering gallery and got interested in acoustics. It was fascinating to see how acoustics can be applied in unique ways. My experiment and data supported my hypothesis that the denser, more porous materials will soundproof more. This information can be useful by being applied to the issue of noise pollution. Loud noises can be very disturbing to both people and wildlife. We can apply acoustics to prevent noise pollution.

  1. Your procedures and variables were clear and well-defined. Your analysis of why certain materials perform better was very thorough. It would be cool to expand this project to other materials in the future, especially knowing what features contribute to effective soundproofing!
