Our project, “How Does Border Traffic Affect Local Air Quality?”, investigates whether areas with heavy border traffic have more air pollution compared to areas with less traffic, such as near a school. We chose this project because air quality affects everyone’s health, especially children, and we wanted to understand how vehicle traffic can impact the environment around our community. In our experiment, we collected air samples near the border and near a school using paper coated with Vaseline to trap dust and compared the results over two days. Our findings showed that the border area had more dust and pollution than the school area, especially on the second day, which supported our hypothesis. We concluded that heavy traffic increases air pollution and lowers air quality. Our project is important because it helps raise awareness about environmental health and shows how everyday activities like driving cars can affect the air we breathe and our overall well-being.
