Citrusy Apple

I wondered which citrus fruit would keep apples fresh the longest. I tested soaking the apple slices in air, water, lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit juice. Then I kept the apple slices in the fridge and checked them every day. I found out that lemon and lime do the best job at keeping the apple slices from being brown.

  1. Great job testing different citrus fruits and recording your results. Your experiment question was clear, and I liked how you checked the apples each day. Keep exploring new food science questions!

  2. I loved this project! It’s nice to see how you wanted to do this project because your brother does not like brown apples. I hope you can use this knowledge to enjoy apples more!

  3. What a fantastic experiment! 🍎🍋 I love how you tested different citrus fruits to see which one kept apples from turning brown the longest. That’s such a practical question. It was especially impressive that you made a prediction and then carefully compared your results. Even though you thought orange might win, you discovered that lemon worked best, which shows you understand that science is about testing ideas and learning from what actually happens. Great job designing your experiment and sharing your findings so clearly. Keep asking curious questions. You’re already thinking like a scientist!

  4. Thanks for sharing the “Just for Fun” and good news. This is a very common project but you made it your own and it was very well done. Congratulations on your great work!
