Which Liquid Attracts More Bugs?

Animal Science

Grade:
5
Teacher:
Stevie Holsen

Students completed an investigation to determine which liquid attracted bugs the most, using careful observation and data collection. This experiment helped them explore how insects respond to different substances and how those responses can be used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of liquids used as pesticides in gardens and crops. Through this hands-on activity, students practiced scientific thinking while learning how experiments can support safer and effective agricultural practices.

  1. Great work on your experiment! You did a wonderful job following the scientific method and keeping a control group with plain water. My favorite part of your project was your “Call to Action”—you used your data to advocate for the environment by suggesting alternatives to chemical pesticides. That is the true goal of science: making the world a better place.

  2. Congratulations, young scientists, on getting to SARSEF. Enjoy your experience here and stay curious.
