When Roots See the Light

Plants and the Environment

In my project I used hydroponics to figure out how exposing roots to light would affect plants by changing the transparency of the container. I chose this project because I feel like roots are overlooked because people can't see them. I found out that when roots are exposed to light they don't grow as tall. My project is important because people who grow plants can know to keep roots out of the sun in order to keep their plants healthy.

  1. This is an interesting to achieve different intensities of lighting without having to mess with all sorts of lightbulbs and a possible dark room. Good job!

  2. Your project demonstrates strong scientific thinking, creativity, and personal interest. You designed a clear experiment to test root light exposure using hydroponics, measured data carefully, and drew thoughtful conclusions. Your project is highly relevant to real-world hydroponics and shows excellent curiosity about plant biology. Bravo
