he purpose of this project was to figure out which candy would melt the slowest in your pocket. This would help us know what type of non-chocolate candy we can keep in our pockets on a hot Arizona day. We thought Jolly Ranchers would take the longest to melt than softer candies like Hi Chews. To test out our hypothesis, we used a oven at a consistent heat, put different types of non-chocolate candies on a tray in the oven, and checked them every five minutes. We learned the candies that melted the slowest were Dum Dums, Sour Patch Kids, and Skittles. They took more than 25 minutes to melt. Surprisingly the Jolly Rancher melted faster than we thought it would. It took between 15-20 minutes. Overall we learned that the candies you want in your pocket on a hot day are Dum Dums, Skittles, and Sour Patch Kids.

  1. This is such a fun and clever project idea — and also very practical for living in Arizona! I love how you took a real-world problem (candy melting in your pocket on a hot day) and turned it into a testable scientific question.

You did a great job forming a clear hypothesis about Jolly Ranchers and comparing them to softer candies like Hi Chews. That shows you were really thinking about texture and composition before you even started experimenting. Using an oven set at a consistent temperature was a smart way to control variables and make your test fair. Checking the candies at regular five-minute intervals also demonstrates strong experimental design and careful observation.

This project shows creativity, strong planning, and great scientific thinking.
