Have you ever wondered which water bottle material would keep your water colder over time? The property of thermal conductivity answers this question. Thermal conductivity (k) is the rate at which certain materials will conduct heat (Q). The rate of heat transfer is described by Fourier’s Law, which uses thermal conductivity as one of 3 parameters to determine how fast heat transfers (Q). This shows that thermal conductivity is a factor that contributes to the rate of heat transfer, and if tested, should change how different water bottles hold temperature. In this experiment, the thermal conductivity level of different materials of water bottles will be put against each other with both cold and hot water to see which one comes out on top.
