Which soil makes the best microbial fuel cell (retail, desert, or Madera Canyon soil)? I chose this project because I wanted experiment with energy production. The result was that the desert soil had produced the earliest and most microbial energy. It is important explore all potential sources for renewable energy.

  1. The student did a very strong job testing three different soil types in a microbial fuel cell to determine which produced the most energy. The experiment followed clear procedures, used a MudWatt device, and relied on an app to track power output. The graph and explanation showed that backyard soil generated the most energy, Madera soil produced none, and the original hypothesis was incorrect—something the student recognized and explained well. The project is creative, well organized, and demonstrates a solid understanding of microbial fuel cells.
