Toothpaste A Superhero for Teeth

Human Health and Behavior

Grade:

People drink many liquids that can destroy the enamel on their teeth. Enamel is a protective layer on our teeth. Enamel keeps teeth strong and without it, teeth can get weak. Different liquids might destroy the enamel on our teeth. I was curious if toothpaste is really effective to protect the enamel on our teeth. I learned that eggshells and tooth enamel are both made of calcium, so I chose to use eggshells as an enamel substitute.

  1. Great job exploring such an important question!

You chose a real‑world problem that affects many people, and you explained clearly why enamel matters and why you wanted to test toothpaste. Using eggshells as a substitute for tooth enamel was a smart and creative choice. Your curiosity, careful thinking, and clear explanation show strong scientific skills for your grade level. Keep discovering how everyday things work—you’re already thinking like a scientist!

    Go explore more!

  2. We have been studying acids and bases in my class. We discussed how acidic drinks like the ones you tested are harmful to your teeth and can cause cavities. I was able to share your results with my class. Nice job! P.S. I wonder what toothpastes works best to neutralize these acids and protect your tooth enamel?

  3. Emmet, Congratulations on your participation at Sarsef! I am so proud of you! It was exciting to see how the different liquids affected the eggs with and without toothpaste. Your science project shows your heart for discovery and scientific observation. Awesome job! -Mrs. Nicolarsen

  4. Your eggshell experiment was brilliant! You proved that toothpaste is a real shield. Your results table was very clear and easy to read. Keep protecting those teeth with science!

  5. Great Job Emmet. I’m very proud of you for this well thought out and detailed project. You are a very bright scholar and it shows with the amazing work on this project.
