Our project, “Thermal Properties of Water and Oil: An Investigation of Phase Transition,” explores how water and oil change states when heat is applied, focusing on their melting and boiling points. We chose this project because we was curious about how different liquids react to temperature changes and why substances do not all melt or boil at the same time. During my experiment, we froze, melted, and boiled both liquids while carefully measuring their temperatures. The results showed that oil melted faster and had a higher average melting temperature than water, proving that different substances have different thermal properties. Our overall conclusion is that particle structure affects how a substance responds to heat, which explains why water and oil behave differently during phase changes. This project is important because understanding thermal properties helps explain everyday situations like cooking, weather changes, and industrial processes, and it strengthens our understanding of physical science concepts about matter and energy.
