The purpose of this experiment was to reduce or reverse acidification in bodies of water so they can safely support living organisms. Many existing acid-reducing spill kits are either too weak to create lasting change or too strong, causing new pH imbalances. The hypothesis stated that if a custom mixture of natural minerals—calcium, calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, sodium carbonate, and sodium bicarbonate—called the Super Powder were added to a liquid, then magnesium oxide would produce the greatest pH increase, resulting in conditions suitable for a healthy ecosystem.
