The SOAP's On You!

Human Health and Behavior

Grade:
4
Teacher:
Dee Padilla

Our class went to The Presidio San Augustín del Tucson recently. We learned how people washed their clothing in the 1700’s and 1800’s. The class wondered what they used, as soap, to clean/wash materials back then. To support our curiosity, we researched cleaning agents of the time, as well as dirty substances to help stain and clean the hand towels. So we decided to do this experiment using natural cleaning agents to see what worked the best.

  1. Excellent project! I love how your prediction was supported by your results. Baking soda worked best, with vinegar right behind it.

  2. This is a well detailed project. The data collection and results are explained right. Great Job!

  3. What a creative and thoughtful experiment! I love the variety of elements used in this- both as stains and cleaning agents! …And to have an entire class participating hands-on in something like this- wow, what an awesome learning experience! FANTASTIC WORK in bringing science to life!!
