The Skittle Effect

Human Health and Behavior

Grade:
1
Teacher:
Jennifer Johnson

Our class explored how our noses and taste buds work together by testing whether smells could trick our brains into tasting different flavors. We chose this project because we were curious about how our senses affect the way food and drinks taste. After tasting sugar water with different scented chapstick under each cup, we discovered that many students thought they tasted different flavors even though the liquid was the same. This project is important because it helped us understand how our bodies work and why food may taste different when we have a stuffy nose or cold.
