The Role of Fagopyrum Esculentum in Phytoremediation and Soil pH Stabilization

This project investigated the phytoremediation potential of Fagopyrum esculentum (buckwheat) in acidic soil conditions. Soil acidification and pollution can disrupt things like nutrient cycling and productivity. In this project, ten soil samples were adjusted to a pH of 4.0 and divided into planted and unplanted groups (5 each) to determine wether buckwheat could stabilize soil pH over time. Soil pH was monitored across two trials, and results showed a measurable increase from a ph of 4.0 to as high as a pH of 6.0, which indicates soil pH stabilization. These findings support the potential use of buckwheat as a sustainable, affordable, and convenient remediation strategy.
