‘The Original Luv Bugs’ explores - in depth - the question: Can we as humans improve upon nature? Even though Blue Death Feigning Beetles produce their own wax coating on their carapaces to conserve water and moisture in an arid desert, could we as humans improve these beetles’ water conservation by using other waxy substances, and therefore increase their lifespan? The creator of this project loved the process of observing and interacting with these delicate and wondrous creatures, and chances are, you will enjoy viewing and reading the project in its entirety just as much.

  1. Great job with your organization and clarity of testing! You really thought out how to isolate the variable you were testing for. I also love your follow up question about desert conditions affecting the other waxes! We know animals evolve in certain ways to thrive in changing conditions, so I’m also curious: what is the beetle wax better at in the desert than soy or beeswax? I hope you get to find out!
