Hair damage is an issue many people (usually women) deal with on the daily. Heat use on hair and overuse of surfactant-composed shampoos can cause cuticles to crack and weaken leading to decreased moisture retention and increased frizz. Botanical oils are intended to strengthen hair fibers and provide a temporary solution for this type of hair damage by adding a healthy shine and fortifying barrier upon the shaft. In this experiment, we investigate the ways that different types of botanical oils can mitigate this damage and nourish the hair shaft and how these effects differentiate on various hair types.
