My project is about the relationship between moon phases and tides to understand if during certain moon phases there would be a higher risk of flooding. I gathered data from the internet on moon phases and tides measurements in San Diego and Virginia Key and analyzed it to determined the relationship between the two. I concluded that during new moons and full moons that is when the highest tides are present. I chose this project because I love learning about space and oceans. And I wanted to see how the two relate. My project is important because if people live in these two places they would love to know when there is going to be a more potential for a flood so they can prepare for it.

  1. This was a very cool project! It’s interesting that this tidal phenomenon is clearer in the San Diego data than the Virginia Key data. I wonder why that is? Great use of NOAA data!

  2. Interesting. good idea to include 2 locations.
Like the idea of making a color chart for people to use….good practical application of study results
