"This project investigates how commonly consumed beverages may affect cell division and potentially impact overall health. Every day, people regularly drink beverages such as soda, coffee, and energy drinks without considering how these drinks might influence the body at the cellular level. Because the immune system depends on healthy cell growth and division to function properly, any disruption to normal cell processes could have broader effects on immune health. Using onion (Allium cepa) root tip cells as a model for rapid cell division, this experiment examines how exposure to everyday beverages influences mitosis. Root tips were exposed to water (control), coffee, Coke, and an energy drink for controlled time periods. After exposure, cells were observed under a microscope to identify abnormalities such as binucleated cells, which can indicate disrupted cell division. By examining the link between everyday beverage consumption and changes in cell division, this study emphasizes that drinks many people consider routine may actually disrupt normal cellular activity. Since the immune system relies on healthy, properly dividing cells to protect the body, repeated interference at the cellular level could gradually affect how well the body defends itself. Exploring these effects helps reveal how regularly consuming certain common beverages might influence immune function over time, beginning at the most basic unit of life (the cell)."
