Spraying The Facial Bacteria Away

Staphylococcus epidermidis, the most common bacteria on the skin, although generally harmless, can contribute to larger issues if growth is facilitated (Claudel et al., 2019). This growth can be accelerated by conditions like excess sweating (Swaney et al., 2023). To try and control this growth in accelerated conditions, it is necessary to find a solution. This study investigates hypochlorous acid and antimicrobial sprays effectiveness of killing a specific bacteria, Staphylococcus epidermidis. Each of the four brands of antimicrobial sprays: Magic Molecule antimicrobial skin spray, Skinsmart antimicrobial facial cleanser, Tower 28 sos daily rescue skin spray and Briotech Tropical skin, were pipetted onto a diffusion disc that were placed on the surface of a bacteria lawn pre-incubation. After incubation, the zone of inhibition represented the effectiveness of antimicrobial sprays in killing Staphylococcus epidermidis. Based on the data collected Tower 28 SOS antimicrobial spray was most effective in inhibiting growth of bacteria.
