Soil Matters: Comparing Vermiculite and Sphagnum Peat Moss on Wildflower Growth

This study investigated the effects of vermiculite and sphagnum peat moss on the growth of wildflowers to determine which medium better supports plant development. Wildflower seeds were planted under controlled conditions using each growing medium, and growth was measured over time based on height and overall plant health. Results showed that plants grown in vermiculite consistently demonstrated greater height, stronger stems, and more vigorous growth compared to those grown in sphagnum peat moss. The improved performance in vermiculite may be attributed to its superior aeration, drainage, and moisture retention properties, which promote healthy root development. These findings provide valuable insights for gardeners and agricultural practices by identifying vermiculite as a more effective growing medium for optimizing wildflower growth.
