Rust is iron oxide that forms on most types of metal with prolonged exposure to oxygen and water. It weakens the metal, its apart of it through oxidation. Rust itself is brittle and coarse, often a murky reddish-brownish hue that is the result of dilapidated conditions for metals. Rust can be dissolved by having it bind to another chemical mixture to clean away the rust particles. Most of the effective bonding agents are acidic, stripping away more rust effectively. Sodas often contain acid for the purpose of giving the drinks a more tangy taste and kick. It’s also included to increase the shelf life of sodas. Because of this, most sodas are inherently acidic in production.

Congratulations! This is a very good project and hopefully you will continue your research.
