Roots Of The Future investigates the methods that Mariposa City (Mexico City in 2126) converts food waste and environmental problems into a sustainable regenerative system inspired by ancient Mexican chinampas. We chose this project because we are passionate about plants, protecting the environment, and combining Indigenous agricultural knowledge with modern technology to solve real-world problems. Our research shows that Chinampa-Tech floating farms, together with milpa systems and waste-free Mercados Cero's create a solution that decreases household food waste by 87% while restoring wetlands and reducing methane emissions and solving hunger issues. The project demonstrates that cities can develop resilient climate-smart futures through circular agriculture and regenerative engineering and traditional cultural practices, which enable them to collaborate with nature. Keywords: chinampas, Indigenous engineering, circular economy, regenerative agriculture, food waste reduction, sustainability, environmental engineering, wetland restoration, milpa system, climate change, farm-to-table

  1. You picked a big real-world problem (food waste and climate impacts) and you explained it clearly. Your idea of using chinampas and building a future city model is creative and interesting.

  2. This presents an outstanding integration of Indigenous knowledge (Aztec chinampas) with modern technology (AI sensors, IoT) to solve real-world food waste problems.
