Racing the Robot: Which Code is Fastest?

The purpose of our science fair project was to find out which coding method helps an Ozobot complete a task faster and with the fewest mistakes: color coding or online Blockly coding. Ozobots are small robots that can follow drawn lines and respond to color codes or computer programming. We predicted that color coding would help the Ozobot finish faster and make fewer errors. To test this, we used the same track for both methods. We ran six trials using color codes and six trials using Blockly coding. During each trial, we recorded how long the Ozobot took to complete the course, how many mistakes it made, and whether it successfully finished. Our results showed that while the Ozobot completed the track slightly faster on average using color codes, it made fewer mistakes and finished more often when programmed with online Blockly coding. We think this is because Blockly provides more exact instructions, while color codes can sometimes be misread by the robot. Overall, we learned that both coding methods work, but online coding is more reliable and accurate. If we continued this experiment, we would test more tracks and complete additional trials to strengthen our results.
