Peroxisense: how strong is your peroxide?

H2O2 is a molecule with many industrial applications, but it breaks down when exposed to light into water and oxygen. This is problematic because all of H2O2’s amazing industrial applications are dependent on starting at the right concentration, which, of course, can change dynamically as the molecule decomposes. To work around this ambiguity in concentration, two methods were tested that can determine the molarity of H2O2. A FOXO (ferric oxide-xylenol orange) indicator method and a UV-Vis spectroscopy method. The goal of this research was to determine which method will be more accurate, precise, and linear.
