Pedal-Powered Light : Using Piezoelectric Discs to Illuminate an LED on a Bicycle

This project investigated whether piezoelectric discs can be used to generate electrical energy from pedaling to illuminate an LED on a bicycle. A pedal-powered system was designed in which mechanical vibrations produced by pedaling were converted into electrical energy using piezoelectric discs. The voltage generated by the piezoelectric discs was measured under different pedaling conditions. Results showed that sufficient voltage was produced to power an LED, demonstrating a functional pedal-powered lighting system. This study highlights a renewable and efficient method for improving bicycle safety while promoting sustainable energy use.
