Meltdown in Space: A Comet Size Experiment

My project tested how the size of a comet affects how fast it melts by measuring how much mass was lost. I chose this project because I am interested in space and astronomy. My results showed that smaller comets melted a higher percentage than larger comets which supported my hypothesis. This project is important because it helps explain how real comets change and form tails when they travel close to the sun.

  1. Very well thought out experiment! Could you measure the weight of the water that melted to see if it matched the missing mass?

  2. Very fun idea and connection to astronomy! I love the pictures you included with the balloons and how you heated the ice balls. Nice work!
