Abstract: For my project I did what best protects wood from water. This project will impact me and my family because it is finding the best way to protect our kitchen drawer without making the wood all soggy when we get the wood wet. My hypothesis is I think the polyurethane will best protect wood from water. I learned that wood grain size effects how much water or liquid the wood soaks up. After testing polyurethane protected the wood best overall compared to paste wax, tung oil, and no treatment.

  1. I love how your project came from a real problem in your home. That makes your science meaningful and practical. The labeling system and organization were incredibly impressive. It was very easy to understand how you tested each piece of wood. I was especially impressed that you noticed how wood grain size might have affected your results. That shows very advanced scientific thinking. Moreso, your conclusion and discussion were thoughtful. You carefully explained unexpected results and suggested improvements for future testing. However, including one summary table that shows all average moisture results together in one place makes comparisons even clearer. Excellent job!
