Solar vs. solar with regular battery vs. solar with a rechargeable battery, can we create a more energy-efficient way to fuel a small-scale car model? Can a solar car with a rechargeable battery be as efficient as a solar car with a regular battery? What about solar power alone? We evaluated three different power configurations for a model car by measuring voltage, weight, and speed. By testing these models on various inclines and under different weather conditions, we aimed to determine which setup was the most energy-efficient. Our goal was to design a small-scale solar-rechargeable car that demonstrates how sustainable technology could improve the future of transportation.

  1. Strong real-world purpose and a clear comparison of three power configurations.
Great engineering mindset: you identified failures (solar-only start, overcharging) and improved the design.

  2. This was an impressive and well-executed engineering project. You did much more than simply test a solar car, you compared three power configurations, measured voltage, speed, weight, incline performance, and even tested under cloudy conditions. I was especially impressed by your use of a multimeter and your solution to the overcharging problem using a buck converter. Your project demonstrates strong engineering thinking and a clear connection to real-world environmental challenges. Excellent teamwork and thoughtful experimentation!
