My project is about transforming kombucha into a plant-based, environmentally safe leather. I chose this project because it is safer and better for the environment and helps to reduce the use of animal hides. The result was that the leather recipe with more sugar added grew stronger and thicker compared to the leather recipe with less sugar added. This project is important because the kombucha creates a more environmentally sound product by not involving the chemicals used to process animal hides. With people becoming more environmentally aware looking for ways to produce products that do not harm the planet, this product is both simple and safe. This plant-based product is made simply from tea, sugar, and SCOBY.
You did a great job keeping your experiment organized and measuring biofilm growth over time. Your tables, graphs, and weekly photos make your results clear.
Interesting idea to test! I liked how you measured both the % coverage on the top of the jar and the thickness of the film in mm. And you discussed and unexpected observation of bubbles forming. What could the gas be?
