Light Bending Salt

My project is about how the salinity of water effects refraction. I chose this project because I wanted to know more about the phenomena I see when sticking a straw into a glass of water. My overall conclusion was that the salinity of water does have an effect on angles of refraction but the impact is not as dramatic as expected, making it difficult to measure with the equipment I have. My project is important because it not only showed how salinity affects lights, but also how the density of a medium could affect refraction. This could lead to more experimentation in answering this phenomenon. Keywords: salinity, refraction, phenomenon

  1. This was a very interesting project! I wonder why the dispersion of the laser increased as the salinity of the water increased?
