Keeping Carnations Healthy

What water mixture best preserves carnations? The chlorine and sodium that salt gives plants blocks them from getting nutrients. Salt causes browning, reduces stem growth, and can dry out flowers. Sugar gives energy to flowers and helps them last, but does this only if it is paired with an antibacterial. Water keeps flowers hydrated and keeps them from wilting. Lemon helps flowers take in water and lower their bacteria.

  1. You did an outstanding job designing and conducting this experiment. I was especially impressed with your detailed observations and your health rating scale, which made your results more scientific and measurable. Your conclusion clearly explained why distilled water worked best and why some ingredients, like lemon and sugar, may actually increase bacteria without the proper balance. fantastic work!
