KA - Class Project How Many Water Drops Can Fit on a Penny

This kindergarten class project explored the question, how many drops of water can fit on a penny before it spills? Students made predictions in their science journals, with many guessing about 10 drops. Using a penny, water, and a dropper, students added one drop at a time while counting aloud. They observed that the water formed a round bubble instead of spilling right away. Students learned this happens because of surface tension, which means water sticks together. After repeating the experiment, the class found the penny held about 17 to 19 drops. Students compared their results to their predictions and practiced thinking like scientists.
