How Antivenom Works

This project explores how antivenom works using a safe chemical simulation. In this model, vinegar represents venom, baking soda solution represents antivenom, and chalk represents body tissue. Four trials were conducted: vinegar only (control), 0.5 teaspoon baking soda, 1.0 teaspoon baking soda, and 1.5 teaspoons baking soda. Two milliliters of vinegar were applied to the chalk. After five seconds, the baking soda solution was added (except in the control). The time it took for the sizzling reaction to stop was measured and recorded. This safe simulation demonstrates how antivenom neutralizes venom by stopping its effects. No real venom, snakes, or antivenom were used in this experiment.
