Gummy Bear Osmosis Lab

Human Health and Behavior
Ella Morales

Grade:
4
Teacher:
Geoff Gerrish

It is about what happens when you put a gummy bear in different liquids and osmosis. I chose this project because I want to know how different liquids affect our bodies. It's important because it shows how our bodies use and absorb liquids.

  1. Great job connecting your gummy bear lab to human health explaining how osmosis is one of the ways the cells maintain balance.

  2. Such an interesting project, Ella! I am so proud of you. I was very impressed with your research and ability to find something that you felt resembled our permeable membrane for your investigation. I hope you’ve enjoyed this process. What a cool idea! -Mrs. Nicolarsen

  3. Using gummy bears is a fun and delicious way to show how osmosis works! Your ‘Application to the Human Body’ section helped bridge the gap between candy and biology. You did a great job explaining how the ‘cell’ (gummy bear) gets bigger when it absorbs water. This is a great way to visualize how our own cells stay hydrated.

  4. I enjoyed how you made a prediction before doing the experiment as every real scientist will.
You compared different liquids and connected it t how body cells behave.
The concept of Hypertonic and Hypotonic solutions.
    Great job and advanced reasoning!

  5. This is amazing work! I love your hunger for scientific knowledge even outside what we study in class.

  6. Great job following the scientific method to explore osmosis! Your project display was very organized, and it was exciting to see how much the gummy bears grew in your different solutions.

  7. Great job following the scientific method to explore osmosis! Your project display was very organized, and it was exciting to see how much the gummy bears grew in your different solutions. well done.
