Growing Cilantro on the Moon: Effects of Simulated Lunar Soil and Organic Amendments on the Growth of Coriandrum sativum

This study investigates the growth of cilantro (Coriandrum sativum) in simulated lunar soil mixed with organic amendments. The experiment lasted six weeks and measured plant height and leaf count across three growth phases: early (weeks 1–2), mid (weeks 3–4), and final (weeks 5–6). Results show that cilantro consistently increased in height and leaf production across all phases. The highest growth occurred during the final phase, indicating that the soil mixture supported plant growth. These findings suggest that cilantro can grow in lunar soil simulants when supplemented with organic materials, which is important for future lunar agriculture and long-term space missions.
