Outstanding engineering project, your idea to design a low-cost goat milking machine using a brake bleeder as a vacuum pump, syringes as teat cups, and a mason jar for milk collection was very creative, and I was impressed by how you improved the design through multiple tests until it safely produced milk at about 10 psi.
This project presents an impressive engineering solution to a real-world problem. The student designed and built a low-cost goat milking pump after realizing that commercial milking machines were too expensive for a small 4-H goat project. Through research, the student learned how milking machines work and identified key components such as teat cups, vacuum pressure, milk transport tubes, and collection containers.
Using creative problem solving, the student constructed a prototype using inexpensive materials including a syringe, food-grade tubing, a brake bleeder to create vacuum pressure, and a mason jar to collect milk. The design went through several improvements before successfully working. The final system operated at a safe pressure of about 10 psi and was able to collect milk efficiently while keeping the goat calm and comfortable.
This project demonstrates strong engineering design, creativity, and real-world application. The iterative testing process and cost comparison with commercial machines make this an outstanding engineering project.
