Fruit Conductivity

My project investigates which fruit has the highest electrical conductivity when compared to an average AA battery, measured using DC voltage to determine which fruit produced the highest average voltage. I chose this project because the concept of the potato battery experiment has always fascinated me, and seeing it referenced in various media made me curious whether other fruits could conduct enough electricity to produce measurable power. This curiosity led me to explore which fruit had the highest electrical conductivity through hands-on experimentation. The results showed that out of seven fruits—green apples, lemons, limes, pears, oranges, grapefruit, and bananas—green apples produced the highest average DC voltage and were the closest to the voltage of an AA battery. This project is important because it provides a practical, hands-on demonstration of fundamental principles in electrochemistry, renewable energy, and scientific inquiry, helping transform abstract scientific concepts into a tangible and relatable experiment.

  2. Your procedures were very clear and easy to follow. Your results were presented in a clear and informative way that was easy to interpret. I also like how you theorized why your results did not match your hypothesis. It’s very important to think critically about your results, especially since doing so can lead to new and exciting projects for the future!
