From Simple to Extraordinary — A Journey of Systems Thinking, Connection, and Creativity

In this project, students used systems thinking to turn simple circles into creative, connected designs. Working alone, in pairs, in groups, and as a whole grade, they saw how time, teamwork, creativity, and supplies affect outcomes. The project showed that when ideas and effort come together, something extraordinary can be created. Students learned how collaboration and systems thinking help people work better together and produce amazing results. This was done by our 5th grade Team: Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Reddoch, and Mrs. Tilicki's classes.
This project demonstrates a strong understanding of systems thinking through a well-designed, multi-phase experiment. The progressive structure clearly showed how time, collaboration, and resources influence creativity and outcomes. The use of both quantitative data (theme counts) and qualitative reflections strengthened the conclusions. The honest discussion of challenges in Phase 5 shows mature critical thinking. Future research could isolate individual variables and develop a measurable creativity scale. Overall, this is a thoughtful, well-executed interdisciplinary study with strong real world relevance.
