Evaluation of Different Water Sources Through Water Quality Parameter Assessment

With upcoming concern surrounding pollution and industrialization, many continue to face hardship in various parts like in contamination in their waters. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effects of different waters sources located in Arizona and their amounts of contaminants. This experiment investigated water quality from local Tucson waters from Gene C. Reid Park, Park Place Mall, Tucson Mall, University High School, University of Arizona, and Kennedy Lake Park. 8 ounces of water were collected safely and tested for the amounts of contaminants it contained measure in parts per million (ppm) using drinking water test strips checking for total hardness, free chlorine, iron, copper, lead, nitrate, nitrite, Mps, total chlorine, fluoride, cyanuric acid, ammonia, chloride, bromine, total alkalinity, carbonate, and pH. They were added up to determine which location showed the best and worst water quality. Among the six water sources, Kennedy Lake proved to have the worst while, Park Place Mall had the best water quality proving my hypothesis to be true.

  1. After examining your research paper, I did not realize this was a two year project. Using test strips to check drinking water showed some interesting results. Using and comparing outdoor water sources around Tucson was an interesting project that could easily be continued your future years in high school. Good project.

  2. Clean drinking water is so important to human health and it was fascinating to learn about how water samples compare at these public sites around Tucson. I appreciate your clear graphics that show the range in water levels for different contaminants at different sites. Well done!
