Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into oxygen gas and when it combines with certain things like dish soap, it creates a reaction. Elephant toothpaste is a foamy substance that uses hydrogen peroxide, yeast, and dish soap to create a rapid reaction. Investigation: What amount of 6% hydrogen peroxide makes elephant toothpaste go the highest it can? Hypothesis: If I add more hydrogen peroxide to elephant toothpaste then the bottle with the most hydrogen peroxide will create the highest foam explosion because hydrogen peroxide contains a greater amount of oxygen which combines with dish soap and yeast to make an explosion.

  1. The student did an excellent job designing and completing this experiment. The research question was clear, the procedure was easy to follow, and the photos clearly showed what took place. The data collected was appropriate and well explained, showing that increasing the amount of hydrogen peroxide caused only a small change in height but produced more foam.
