1. What is your project about? My project was about if a dog's ear length affects their sense of smell. We tested our own dogs and some of my moms friends' dogs. We tested them in their own home so they only had to get used to one smell. Then I found 25 feet of tile and cleaned it. I measured their ears and laid out a scent trail leaving the treat at the end. I showed them where the scent trial started and timed them to see how long it would take them to find the treat. I tested 9 dogs. 1. Why did you choose this project? I chose to do this project because I love animals, especially dogs! I have two hounds and it inspired me to investigate and see if it was their ears that made them able to smell so good or if it was something else. 1. What was your result/ overall conclusion? My end result was that the dog with the longest ears (20.32cm) had the fastest time of 37.69 seconds. If I were to do this again I would want to see if the breed had anything to do with their sense of smell because the dog with the fastest time was a hound and they are bred to have a good sense of smell. 1. Why is your project important? My project helps people when they want to get a dog because most dogs who have long ears like to sniff everything and if they get a good scent trail they might start barking. If you don't want a dog who does that then you might consider getting a dog with shorter ears who doesn't care as much about all the smells.
