Digital Logic Implementation of a Binary Coded Decimal to Standard Decimal Number Converter

Applied Technology

Jennifer Rozo

My engineering design project is to use discrete logic gates to make an electronic circuit that converts a binary coded decimal (BCD) number from 0-9 into a standard decimal number and displays it on a 7 segment display. I chose this project because I wanted to create a calculator that shows people how binary numbers work and to learn how some of the smallest parts of computers work. The result was that I was able to successfully make a circuit that converts the BCD numbers from b0000-b1001 to decimal 0-9 and show the numbers on a 7 segment display. My project is important because it could be used as a simple BCD to decimal calculator to help a student understand how binary numbers work. My project can also help people understand what engineers have to do to make these types of electronic devices.

  1. I am very happy to see how professional your investigation looks. Congratulations! I really like your project.

  2. Amazing, I always wondered how binary turns into decimal! Your protect has thrown light onto something so apparently basic yet not easily understandable for a regular person. Thanks a lot and keep going!

  3. ¡Muchas felicidades mi Dante!
Estoy muy orgullosa de ti y de todo el trabajo que hiciste por más de dos meses con papi

  4. Congratulations! This is a great contribution to knowledge and applied engineering. I believe that anything that adds value to innovation is commendable and will certainly support new discoveries in the field. I hope that curiosity always prevails, since great discoveries begin with it, and that’s what develops brilliant minds.

  5. Congratulations on your work on the project and the demonstration of using different methods to convert a binary-coded decimal (BCD) number from 0-9 into a standard decimal number, as well as carrying out its implementation and development.

What’s interesting about this work is that you can demonstrate and learn the fundamentals of how some of the many communication languages between technological devices work, and their basis for developing more efficient communication languages in the future. Good work and keep it up!

  6. Your work shows a great understanding of how binary works and how to translate them into readable digits (like decimal), it also shows how well you understand technical things, that is very good. I also love your visuals and how detailed your work on the conversion is. This is a great work.

  7. Impressive, I hope you have learned about engineering and enjoyed this project and it inspires you to continue down this technological path.
