Design and Experimental Analysis of a Frequency-Controlled Air Cannon for Fire Suppression

This project investigates the effectiveness of a frequency-controlled air cannon in extinguishing flames without the use of chemicals or water. The study compares the effects of low and high sound frequencies on flame suppression and measures how distance affects extinguishing performance. By generating pressure pulses through an acoustic air cannon, we tested how frequency influences air displacement, flame instability, and suppression range. Results were analyzed to determine which frequency range produces the strongest pressure waves and the greatest suppression distance. This research explores an alternative, non-chemical approach to fire control using principles of sound waves, air pressure, and resonance.

  1. Wow! You clearly have done your work in researching the background of the problem, and you have a very thoughtfully designed experiment as well as a creative idea on how to put out fires with less residue harm! I liked this project a lot and I think you did really well here 🙂

  2. This project covers a very interesting topic! I really enjoyed the detailed procedure and images showing the construction of the extinguisher and experimental setup. Your analysis of your results is thorough, along with your thoughts about future work. This is a project I would love to see expanded upon in the future!
