Our class first called this experiment Operation Stinky Feet! We tested which socks—copper-infused, silver-infused, or regular polyester—kept the most bacteria from growing. Since bacteria love warm, sweaty socks and cause bad smells, we wanted to find out which sock worked best. This idea came from our upcoming class road trip to California. We joked that no one should take off their shoes to relax on the bus unless we solve the smelly feet problem first! It was also awesome because we got to grow real bacteria and look at it under a microscope.

I love that there’s a real story behind the project. It sounds like it was fun to grow the bacteria and see it under a microscope!
