During copper extraction process, a chemical called sulfuric acid is used in the process. Sulfuric acid affects the environment because it creates crystals and those crystals metal. These crystals break down over time a create tailing ponds. Tailing ponds is a pool of poisonous chemicals that is broken down to a liquid substance, these ponds poison the area by killing plants and small critters. To prevent this while being able to extract copper can sulfuric acid be replaced with citric acid and hydrogen peroxide?
You did an excellent job investigating an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional copper extraction. You carefully documented your observations and even used a microscope to look for changes. Although your experiment didn’t extract copper, you reflected thoughtfully on why and suggested ways to improve it next time. This shows a strong understanding of chemistry and environmental impact. Overall, this is a creative and meaningful project with real-world importance!
