Comparing the Effectiveness of Natural Antimicrobials on Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria Using Zone of Inhibition?

Bacteria are grouped into gram-positive and gram-negative based on differences in their cell walls. Gram-positive bacteria have a thick peptidoglycan layer, while gram-negative bacteria have a thinner layer and an extra outer membrane that protects them. Because of this outer membrane, gram-negative bacteria are often harder to kill with common disinfectants. Household antimicrobials like vinegar, tea tree oil, and alcohol work by damaging bacterial membranes or proteins. However, these substances may not affect all bacteria in the same way. This experiment compares the zones of inhibition created by different antimicrobials on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The results are important for students, healthcare workers, and anyone who wants to understand which disinfectants work best for everyday use.
