Color vs. White, The Candle Burnoff

Candles burn when the heat from the flame melts the wax near the wick. The melted wax travels up the wick, where it turns into vapor and burns. This process creates light and heat. Most candles are made from the same type of wax, but they can be different colors because of added dye. Some scientists believe that darker colors may absorb more heat, which could cause the candle to melt and burn faster. Lighter colors may reflect heat, possibly causing them to burn more slowly. In this experiment, all candles will be the same size and made from the same material so that the only difference is the color.
