Can the Material for An Electromagnet Coil Change the Electromagnetism Produced?

To begin, this project I will be testing different types of wires that will be used as an electromagnetic coil and seeing if there is a difference in the electromagnetism of the electromagnet. Through the experiment I will be testing a copper, aluminum, tin, and steel insulated wire to see if there is a difference and which wire will result in the strongest electromagnetic pull. Additionally, each electromagnet will have as similar as possible variables, with new products being tested and the same amount of coil and feet of wire being used throughout every test, which will insure more accurate results,, and less inconclusive results to be found. Finally, this project main goal is to find if there is a difference in between different types of wires, and if there is a best type of wire to use, or if it matters which wire you use when creating an electromagnet.

I especially appreciate how detailed your procedures were. You controlled variables carefully, used consistent coil lengths, and even insulated wires manually when needed. Your data was clear and meaningful. Your explanation that “the worse conductor the material was…the more prevalent the resistance…resulting in thermal energy” shows excellent scientific reasoning. The project is impressive in both scope and execution. Great work!

  2. I really enjoyed seeing how you built several electromagnets and carefully tested different wire materials to compare their strength. Your experiment clearly showed how copper performed better than the other wires, and it is great to see you thinking about how electricity and magnetism work together.
