Building arch, beam, and suspension bridges out of wooden tongue depressors to analyze the amount of force required for collapse under different types of foundations

This project sought to test bridge types to find the most cost effective and stable design. The experiment evaluated the effect of foundation and bridge type on structural stability to determine which bridge would be the most cost effective. Bridge stability was defined as holding maximum weight while maintaining stiffness. An experiment was run with three bridge types; arch, beam and suspension; and two different foundations consisting of a flat platform such as concreate and gravel with a looser foundation. This experiment was done by adding weights to bridge until collapse.
